2019-20 Spring/Summer Fashion Trends

Spring is here! Are you as excited as I am for the warmer months? We can finally come out of hibernation and leave our coats, boots and beanies behind when we leave the house. I am also getting bored with my winter wardrobe so I'm looking forward to wearing my spring/summer clothes.  Stores are bringing out their new collections every few weeks and I love what I've seen so far. Here are the 2019-20 spring/summer fashion trends you'll see more of in coming months.

We won't see anything groundbreaking in this season's trends in terms of cut, shapes and styles of clothes. Midi, maxi and mini length skirts and dresses are still in fashion. For the pleated skirt fans like me, you are in good company. In the new season, stores are bringing them out in bold and bright colours.

You will still see wrap skirts and dresses and tailored suits this spring/summer too. It looks like shorts will be a popular wardrobe item for the summer and I have my fingers crossed that I won't see too many bike shorts on the streets!

Pink, blue, neutral tones, bold colours and some neon colours will be big this year. Neutrals and whites were a hit last spring/summer too and you can always rely on these two colours to make an appearance every season. You can opt to wear all tonal or mix bold colours with whites or neutrals. Green and mustard shades are continuing on to the warmer months but in lighter shades.

Are you a fan of pinks and blues? There are many shades of these two colours arriving this spring/summer season, you'll be sure to find the shade that looks good on you. White is a great colour to pair with pinks and blues.

Neons tried to make a statement in autumn/winter this year but didn't take off. You'll see fluro yellow and green try to do the same again this spring/summer. Personally I don't mind a bit of neon. If you want to add neons to your wardrobe, the best way to wear it is in small doses, as an accent piece like a bag rather than a whole neon outfit.

Floral prints are still around and have been for a few years now. I saw a hint of chain print last summer but they are making a come back this year too.

Animal prints aren't going away in a hurry either. I think animal prints took over this year's autumn/winter fashions. If you have already embraced animal prints in all its form, you will love what you see this spring/summer. Leopard, zebra and snake prints in vibrant summer colours will make you excited to wear them in the warmer months. If your preference is to wear animal prints in a more subtle way, read my blog '6 Subtle Ways to Wear Animal Print'.

I'm excited about sequins being back in the spotlight again this spring/summer. They are perfect for the party season to add a little glam to your outfit. As you can see from the collection below, you don't have to wear sequin clothing. There are many other ways you can add sequins to your wardrobe. A sequins clutch will never go out of style.

Pearls, shells, beads, bamboo and rattan

If you love jewellery and handbags as much as I do, I have no doubt you will love the spring/summer trends this year. Wearing different jewellery and handbags with the same outfit is one of the ways to avoid getting bored with your wardrobe.

Hair Accessories

Who loves scarves? They are a great accessory in summer to wear in your hair, tied to your bag or even used as a belt to add some colour and points of interest.

I'm not sure if I will get into the hair clips trend. I wore hair clips pretty much every day when I was younger. I must say the size of some clips I've seen has left me with a big jaw drop!

It's always good to update your wardrobe for the new season with a few of these trending styles. When you do go shopping for them, choose the ones that you can mix and match with your existing wardrobe. Pick the styles and colours that you gravitate to and don't feel like you have to update your wardrobe for every single spring/summer trend.
